Foundation #8: Jesus, the Last Adam and the Second Man Fulfilling the Original Commission

1 Corinthians 15:45-49
45 Thus it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.
46 But it is not the spiritual that is first but the natural, and then the spiritual.
47 The first man was from the earth, a man of dust; the second man is from heaven.
48 As was the man of dust, so also are those who are of the dust, and as is the man of heaven, so also are those who are of heaven.
49 Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall[f] also bear the image of the man of heaven.

Jesus is identified by Paul as both the Last Adam and the Second Man.
Multiple meanings for this but he is not the second Adam or the Last Man.


There will never be another “ADAM", for He is the Last Adam.
And there will be many more “MAN", because He is the Second Man.


Jesus, the Last Adam, fully fulfills Genesis 1:26 and 1:28 in his 33 years on earth.

Paul's Revelation:

1. The resurrected Last Adam is described as a “life-giving” spirit.
2. The resurrected Second Man is described as “from heaven”.

1. Virgin birth
2. Atonement on the Cross
3. Resurrection of Christ
4. Ascension of Christ
5. Baptizing Christ

Shared Works of Jesus (Second Man) Genesis 1:28

1. Defeating Temptation of the Enemy
2. Proclamation of the Kingdom
3. Demonstration of the Kingdom
4. Making Disciples
5. Filling all places with the presence of God

Jesus fulfilled Genesis 1:26 & 1:28 and empowered his disciples to do the same.
