Matthew 28:18-20
18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 22:34-40
34 But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together.
35 And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him.
36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?”
37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
38 This is the great and first commandment.
39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
Mark 12:28-34
28 And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?”
29 Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’
31 The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
32 And the scribe said to him, “You are right, Teacher. You have truly said that he is one, and there is no other besides him.
33 And to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as oneself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
34 And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.”
The Lord’s commands are in accordance with His design.
Specifically The Ten Commandments are in accordance with His design of our hearts to love God and love man.
Ten Commandments List
- You shall have no other gods before Me.
- You shall make no idols.
- You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
- Keep the Sabbath day holy.
- Honor your father and your mother.
- You shall not murder.
- You shall not commit adultery.
- You shall not steal.
- You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
- You shall not covet.
Romans 5:20a
20 Now the law came in to increase the trespass...
The Law exposed sin.
Sin is missing the mark of the glory of God.
Romans 3:23
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
What is the glory of God summed up in the call of the commands of God that we all fall short of?
Having hearts that are maturing in and manifesting LOVE!
Sin is what I do when I am unsatisfied with the Love of God!
Psalm 90:14
14 Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
Why do I love and need the praise of man?
- because I am not satisfied with the Steadfast Love of the Lord.
Why do I love money and pleasure?
- because I am not satisfied with the Steadfast Love of the Lord.
Why do I make an idol out of ministry?
- because I am not satisfied with the Steadfast Love of the Lord.
Call to Set the Seal
Song of Songs 8:6-7
6 Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the Lord.
7 Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it. If a man offered for love all the wealth of his house, he would be utterly despised.
We can agree with the Holy Spirit’s mission to set the Lord as a SEAL upon:
1. Our hearts (affections/inward thoughts and emotions)
2. Our arms (power/work)
Meaning that His presence and love becomes the central focus of our love and work.
