Sam teaches about how darkness was the first thing overcome in the Creation process. The Lord did not say, “Let the darkness be gone!” Rather, he created Light to overcome that darkness.
Isaiah 9:1-2 (NIV) 1 Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan— 2 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.
“Walking in darkness” and “Living in deep darkness” is how those living in Jesus’ time are depicted.
Darkness is an atmosphere with no illumination where reality is not seen.
Darkness affects our minds, emotions, relationships, and sense of reality.
Darkness is what is attacked first in the Creation process.
Genesis 1:2-3 (ESV) 2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
The Lord did not say - “Let the darkness be gone”!
John 8:12 (NIV) 12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 1:4-5 (NIV) 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:5 (AMPC) 5 And the Light shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has never overpowered it [put it out or absorbed it or appropriated it, and is unreceptive to it].
You don’t go into a dark room with a bucket are start scooping up the darkness and pouring it out a window.
No, you turn on the light and the darkness must flee.
Let us set our hearts and minds on Jesus the Light instead of ours or others’ darkness.
Also, let us pray that a Great Light will shine on those walking in darkness and living in deep darkness.
