Philippians 3:12-15 (ESV)
12 Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own.
13 Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead,
14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
15 Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you.
Pressing onward takes a faith act of forgetting the past.
Why?
Because the enemy of our souls, in league with our “old man” (and at times even those around us), wants to trap us in prison cells of regret for failures in the past.
The enemy has a debilitating and tormenting power in our lives if we do not exercise forgiveness towards and forgetfulness about our past failures.
True repentance and faith in the blood of Jesus puts us on innocent ground where we can stand free of the shackles of guilt and shame.
Jeremiah prophesied a time, the new covenant, where he would remember our sins no more. - Jeremiah 31:33-34
Hebrews 8:12 (ESV)
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.”
Hebrews 10:17 (ESV)
17 then he adds, “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”
Let us pray for grace to remember what He remembers and forget what He forgets.
