1 Corinthians 15:57
57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
There is spiritual war just as there is natural war.
But spiritual war is fought on a very different ground than natural war.
In natural war victory is gained by resources inside of the warriors.
In spiritual war victory is gained by resources outside of the warriors.
Even the Old Testament models this: Joshua 1:2-3
Joshua 1:2-3 (ESV)
2 “Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the people of Israel.
3 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses.
Joshua 6:2-5 (ESV)
2 And the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and mighty men of valor.
3 You shall march around the city, all the men of war going around the city once. Thus shall you do for six days.
4 Seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark. On the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets.
5 And when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, when you hear the sound of the trumpet, then all the people shall shout with a great shout, and the wall of the city will fall down flat, and the people shall go up, everyone straight before him.”
The victory was already determined by the Lord.
His people then needed to march and trumpet the presence of God into the situation.
Then they needed to “shout” (i.e. faith-speak) the already given victory and then possess.
The greater Joshua has gained the ultimate victory through His resurrection and now possesses ALL authority in heaven and earth.
In Christ we fight FROM victory not FOR victory.
In Christ we EXECUTE victory we do not EARN victory.
In Christ victory is a gift not a reward.
The enemy is an already defeated foe, whose only hope is to convince a victorious people that they are defeated.
Our armor, listed in Ephesians 6, is made up of the victorious provisions of Christ:
Victory for the believer is attained by a faith focus on the Victor not a war focus on the enemy.
