The Lord desires to transform the “spirit of our minds” or the core culture of our thinking - that is, the default position of how we perceive reality.  Sam brings a lesson from the life of Caleb and how he had a "different" spirit we can learn from.

Numbers 14:20-24 (ESV)
20 Then the Lord said, “I have pardoned, according to your word.
21 But truly, as I live, and as all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord,
22 none of the men who have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and yet have put me to the test these ten times and have not obeyed my voice,
23 shall see the land that I swore to give to their fathers. And none of those who despised me shall see it.
24 But my servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit and has followed me fully, I will bring into the land into which he went, and his descendants shall possess it.

Caleb is identified as having a “different spirit” than the other spies.

I have been praying this passage for the last 6-9 months:
Ephesians 4:22-24 (ESV)
22 to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires,
23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

The Lord desires to transform the “spirit of our minds”.
The “spirit of our minds” refers to the core culture of our thinking.
It is the default position of how we perceive reality.

Caleb has a different way of thinking about trials, troubles, challenges, enemies, inheritance, what was of value, and war.
Give me the mountain!!

Joshua 14:10-12 (NKJV)
10 And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive, just as he said, these forty-five years since the time that the Lord spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness. And now, behold, I am this day eighty-five years old.
11 I am still as strong today as I was in the day that Moses sent me; my strength now is as my strength was then, for war and for going and coming.
12 So now give me this hill country of which the Lord spoke on that day, for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there, with great fortified cities. It may be that the Lord will be with me, and I shall drive them out just as the Lord said.”

Caleb wanted the Mountain region of the Promised Land that is full of giants.

This region’s name is - Hebron.
Why Hebron and what does Hebron represent?
What fueled and motivated the faith of Caleb?

Hebron means “unite” or “alliance”.
1) Hebron was the burial place of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Caleb aligned himself with the covenant fathers and promises.
2) Hebron would be the place that David was first declared King over Judah, and where Israel would come and align itself with him before he took Jerusalem and set it as the capital of the kingdom of Israel.

Just under 350,000 come to unite with David during his 7.5 years there.

Joshua 14 lists the some of the areas of inheritance for the other tribes, as well as the 2.5 tribes that settle in the plush, easy east side of the Jordan.

Caleb does not choose his inheritance by “plush and easy” but by revelation and faith.

Giants, mountains, and all kinds of trouble look different to Caleb because he operated in a “different spirit” in his mind and his heart.

Because of this “different spirit” and unflinching faith - Caleb exalts the Lord’s glory and word unlike the fretting fear-filled unbelieving spies that tempted a whole generation to miss their inheritance.

What’s at stake in our faith or unbelief, our courage or fear, or our hope or discouragement?
  - the Lord’s glory as well as the inheritance of those around us.
