Colossians 1:18 (NIV)
18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
The supremacy, or preeminence, of Christ is the central issue of this age and the human heart.
The human heart’s greatest nourishment and satisfaction is found in the supremacy of Christ.
The increase and manifestation of the supremacy of Christ is the primary mission of the Holy Spirit’s work in the believer’s life.
An ongoing enlarging revelation of the supremacy of Christ awakens the slumbering, heats up the lukewarm, exhilarates the bored, centers the wavering, increases endurance in suffering, and feeds the hungry heart.
Every disciple should passionately commit themselves to the developing of a high Christ-ology.
We do this through a “spirit of wisdom and revelation” in the knowledge of Him found primarily in the scriptures.
Ephesians 1:17 (NIV)
17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.
The devil and all your spiritual warfare are working to make Christ small to you – to put him anywhere between second and last place to you.
So take a passage like Hebrews 1:1-4 and meditate, pray, and ingest the glory of the revelation of Christ.
Hebrews 1:1-4 (NIV)
1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways,
2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.
3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
4 So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.
