2 Kings 6
The king of Aram sent mighty army, horses, and chariots
Elisha didn’t pray for hills full of horses or chariots of fire
Rather, he prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so he may see”
God revealed WHAT IS ALREADY HAPPENING!
We do not need to try to stir up faith/gifting/power/etc.
- “give me a prophetic word”
- “give me the gift of healing”
- etc.
Rather, Paul’s exhortation to Timothy - 2 Timothy 1
Effort to do this: “Fan into flame” (give extra oxygen to what’s already there) “the gift of God”
as opposed to…
“FOR - God did not give us a spirit of Fear/Timidity - but Boldness/Power”
We simply access what’s already there - in the heavenly realms - no need to create it.
We must live “Above the Line of Sight” - Seated with Christ - with minds “up there”
From heaven / To Earth
Not with minds “down here” from earth up to heaven.
To DO THIS - requires Boldness
Engle - The Righteous as bold as lions (Proverbs 28:1)
What Blocks our Boldness / Fearlessness / Power?
Exodus 34:29-35
- Second time to give commandments (after golden calf)
- Moses’ face shone BECAUSE he had been speaking with the Lord
- He released the Law / the Old Covenant (Arrangement) to the People
- Hidden Behind the Veil because his face was shining
- Whenever he spoke to the Lord he removed the veil
Why the veil?
Not because the people were afraid - but because Moses was not bold
2 Corinthians 3:6-18
Old Covenant / Arrangement - came thru Moses - the “ministry that produced death”
“The Law requires of man what he cannot perform” - reveals sin, demands obedience, kills us
Covenants - present the terms by which we can have relationship with God
Established by One party - and either accepted or rejected by the other party but never changed / altered by them
Old Terms = relate to God thru the Law
New Terms = related to God thru Christ and His finished work
IF THAT OLD COVENANT CAME WITH SO MUCH GLORY -
HOW MUCH MORE WILL THE NEW COVENANT - the MINISTRY OF THE SPIRIT - BE GLORIOUS!
V11 - the Ministry of the Spirit - That Shines From us - is even More Glorious! - It lasts!
So - no more lack of boldness - No more fear!
V13 - Unlike Moses, we are BOLD
The veil was worn “To prevent Israelites from SEEING the end of what was passing away” (fading, transitory)
V14 - ONLY in Christ is the veil taken away!
Exodus 26:33 - “The veil/curtain Will Separate the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place”
Matthew 27:50-51 - “He gave up His spirit. At that moment the veil / curtain was torn in two from top to bottom”
Hebrews 9:8 - “The Holy Spirit was showing us that the WAY into the most Holy place had not yet been disclosed / manifested as long as the First tabernacle (Levitical system) was still functioning”
THE WAY INTO THE HOLY OF HOLIES HAS BEEN DISCLOSED / MANIFESTED!!
So - we need not remain in the Holy place (Soul) / Old Covenant
We Now Enter into the Holy of Holies (Spirit) / New Covenant
This AFFECTS EVERYTHING in Daily Life!
Whether we choose to live - “Above the line of Sight” or Below it
Living in the REALITY of the New Covenant Means:
- Living Under His banner that is Love
- Living Under the declaration that I as a believer - am FREE from guilt / condemnation
- Living / Walking set apart in God’s Special purpose
2 Corinthians 3:14 - Veil over Mind (Which made it dull / hardened)
2 Corinthians 3:15 - Veil over Heart (Which made it blind)
2 Corinthians 3:16-18 - NOW
v16 - when my heart turns (in repentance and faith) to the Lord - The Veil is removed and I SEE!
EVERY DAY!
v17 - “Where the Spirit of the Lord is” = WHERE HE IS LORD
Where is He Lord? - In the home of the heart - In My Heart
Freedom! - My Heart is FREE Where He is Ruling & Reigning as Lord!
Definition … “absence of necessity…”
v18 - Now (without a veil) - we can “Look Steadily Into the Face of Christ” - (contrast v 7)
A) We Look With Eyes of Heart - We contemplate
- We Behold - See Him ourselves
- We Reflect - Enable others to see Him thru us
B) We are Transformed in Mind - by renewal of mind
- Transformed into His image
- The More glory we see of Him, the more we become like Him
- Shining brighter and brighter in His glory reflected
Psalms 34:5 - Those who look to Him are radiant - their faces are never covered with Shame
1 John 3:2 - “We shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is”
2 Corinthians 4:6 - God made His light shine into our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Jesus Christ
SO - No need to effort to stir up the Glory
Rather - “Fan into flame” with more oxygen
Living Beholding His Glory
Living in the realm of Faith - “Above the line of Sight”
In a Different / Higher Realm - Realm of Faith
