Jonathan gives a word much emphasized by Jesus in Matthew 24 - “Watch Out For Deception!” These last days offer many options for “a” Jesus, “a” spirit and “a” gospel - other than those we have been given from God. He gives 4 hallmarks of deception from the Scriptures and shares the wild story of prophetic deception out of I Kings 13. We must KNOW the Lord and His word in order to stay on the right path.

Numbers 21:16-18 (NIV)
16 From there they continued on to Beer, the well where the Lord said to Moses, “Gather the people together and I will give them water.”

27 For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt
21 but test them all; hold on to what is good,
22 reject every kind of evil.

1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
2 Corinthians 11:1-4 (NIV)
1 I hope you will put up with me in a little foolishness. Yes, please put up with me!
2 I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him.
3 But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.
4 For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the Spirit you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough.
Last Days Provide MULTIPLE Options for:
- “A Jesus”
- “A Spirit”
- “A Gospel”
How do we know the Real from the False?
Discernment Needed for what we:
1) Hear Preached
2) Receive Spiritually
3) Accept as Gospel

1) Plumb Line Moved off of Jesus - 2 Corinthians 11:3
2) Smooth Talk & Flattery - Romans 16:18
3) Confusion - Galatians 1:7
4) Other’s Input “from God” Ahead of God’s Word -
- “Some People” (Galatians 1:7)
- “We or angels” (Galatians 1:8)
- “Someone” (2 Corinthians 11:4)
- “They secretly introduce destructive heresies” (2 Peter 2:1)
- “Old Prophet” (1 Kings 13)

Believers Especially Susceptible to Deception from:
1) Older (more years spiritually advanced) - Respect/Honor
2) Close Identification - “Also a Prophet” - (Same prophetic stream)
3) Claim of Spectacular Spiritual Experience - “Angel from Heaven” - Sensational/ Emotional
4) Claiming to Speak for God - “By the Word of the Lord” - WE must know His Word - God Never Contradicts Himself
5) Appearance of Piety - “no greasy gifts” - just a simple meal
