Picking up where he left off last week, Jonathan teaches about the greatest hindrance to walking in our God-given, Jesus-won authority: namely, shame. He shares about the two types of “coverings” available to us: God’s skin (Psalms 32:1) or Man’s fig leaves (Proverbs 28:13). He finishes with the story of Israel and Achan’s hidden treasure to demonstrate that we NEVER prosper when we conceal our sins but find tender mercy when we confess & forsake them.
Authority, recap, from last week
Authority & power.
Opposite is condemnation / powerlessness.
Shame kills authority & power
Two types of covering:
God’s or ours
Skin or fig leaves
Psalms 32:1-2 (NIV)
1 Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.
2 Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit.
Proverbs 28:13 (NIV)
13 Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.
Prodigal son had no authority as a son.
He was okay with the position of a servant.
Older brother was the same.
Transparency, humility & confession ruins the enemy’s plans for your life.
David was a man after God’s own heart.
He was not perfect, but quick to run back in order to keep his heart sensitive and open to the Lord.
