John 17:20-26 (ESV)
20 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word,
21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.
22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one,
23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.
24 Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.
25 O righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me.
26 I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”
Before the creation of all that is, in eternity past, the Father loved the Son.
God is love (1 John 4:8)
1 John 4:8 (ESV)
8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
This is not just one of the attributes of diety - but rather the ultimate and most accurate description of the culture of the relationship of the Godhead.
We have not been redeemed from sin, or "saved", just so that we might escape punishment.
We have been redeemed so that we might enter into eternally past trinitarian passion and purpose.
The Reason for Creation:
“the Nicene Creed ascribes creation especially to the Father: “We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.” Flowing from his love, it is his to command into being. Thus the cry in Revelation 4:11 goes up specifically to him: “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”
The Father loves the Son and out of that love came: creation. Creation not only has a Source (God), but a Reason: Trinitarian Love.
“Thus Jesus Christ, God the Son, is the Logic, the blueprint for creation. He is the one eternally loved by the Father; creation is about the extension of that love outward so that it might be enjoyed by others. ”
Delighting in the Trinity by Michael Reeves
Eden and salvation "after Eden" are all for the purpose of gathering others into the Trinitarian Love Affair and Purpose of Expanding that Love Affair/Culture throughout the whole universe.
The trinitarian relationship is the reason behind all that is to be eternal.
Why worship? God loves God.
Why prayer? God talks to God.
Why family? God is a family.
Why holiness? God is Holy with God.
I encourage you to make Theology, the study of God, the center of your faith.
And the highest summit of your theology is the unique identity of Who Yahweh is: Trinity.
This is not some impractical meditation meant only for the "theologian". Trinitarian focus and faith should be the fountain for understanding the ways of God in all things.
John 7:37-39 (ESV)
37 On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.
38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”
39 Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
