Lizzie shares a word in season about what we’ve been truly saved from, and then reads one of her poems.
Little Girl on the Rock
By Lizzie Brickley
A little girl against a monster
It doesn’t seem quite fair
He’s ten times her size
Shouting outside his lair
He hurls his words like swords
Piercing accusations and lies
She crumbles under the pain
Because to her his words sound right
Is there truth in his mouth?
She analyzes what was said
His taunting chants grow louder
The pounding echoes in her head
She attempts to stand against
The sneers, jabs and accusation
But gazing into the monster’s mirror
She sees only her gnarled reflection
It’s all true - she has no defense
How can she fight this battle?
What ground is secure
And won’t make her faith unravel?
Just then she spies a sword
As her last hope begins to fade
She grabs the hilt and examines the steel
Crafted into the finest royal blade
She then recalls to mind
“The enemy speaks in lies,
The chosen One dwells in me
I am of his bloodline”
“I belong to Jesus”
Comes a weak whisper from her lips
The monster roars in anger
Turning, his strong tail whips
She tried to stand her ground—
No Strength to even stand
Collapsing in a heap
His word clenched in her hand
“Jesus is in my midst
He will never leave
I am his beloved
He delights over me”
“Your lies they hold no weight
Your fire cannot consume
For I hide under the eternal wing
And in Him I have a room”
As her words come forth by faith
The sword penetrates the thick skin
How can one small puncture wound
Give her any hope to win?
She tucks up underneath
the everlasting word
The roar seems to lessen
As she holds forth her sword
A sojourner, she lives on this earth
Patiently waiting for things unseen
She waits by faith not by sight
In Service of the risen King
Suddenly, the King approaches
On his faithful steed
Sword in hand,
Here in her time of need.
Do not give up, frail child
You will surely win
Your King has crushed the dragon’s head
Defeated Satan, death and sin
I have been here all along
Hidden from your sight
Longing for you to stand
In MY strength and might
I pray strength for you, dear daughter
The battle won’t last long
From what seems like your defeat
Will arise the victor’s song
Sing it loud and sing it clear
Watch the enemies flee
As you stand upon the rock
With your whole heart believe on me
