Sam reminds us the Bible is like the Ark of the Covenant. It carries the glory of the person and purpose of Yahweh through the generations of the church. Knowing your Bible well helps you know His voice well!

Bible Basking
"Going joyfully deep into the spirit of the Scriptures"

John 5:39-40 (ESV)
39 You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me,
40 yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.

There are a couple different heart postures in approaching the scriptures:
1. To interact with them in a "searching way"; that is, trying to find a "way" that leads to life
2. To interact with them in way that leads to finding "a person" who is life

The Bible is a supernatural ancient book that, like the box of the Ark of the Covenant, carries the glory of the Person and Purpose of Yahweh through the generations of the Church.

The Uniqueness of the Bible - MAP
1. Manuscript Number & Dates:
   - Bible has 5,686 copies of the original, some are under 50 years from original
   - Homer’s “Iliad” has 643 copies 400 years from original
2. Archeology:
   - Archeological findings have confirmed the Bible’s claims not disproved them.
   - Confirmation of a global flood, Israel’s slavery in Egypt, Jericho’s walls fallen, David’s rule, birthplace of Jesus, etc., have served to confirm, not oppose, Biblical claims.
3. Prophecy:
   - Probably the most convincing proof of the Bible being a supernatural accurate source about

God is: fulfilled prophecy.
   - The Old Testament, written hundreds of years before Christ was born, lists 300 references and 191 specific prophecies that were all fulfilled in the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
   - Besides this, there are prophecies about people and nations that have been fulfilled in remarkable ways.
   - Cyrus is prophesied about in Isaiah 45 which is 100-150 years before he is born.
   - Even the rise and fall of nations are prophesied about with 100% accuracy.

The Breath of God in the Bible:
Genesis 2:7 (ESV)
7 then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.

2 Timothy 3:16 (ESV)
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,

John 6:63 (ESV)
63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

So I want to encourage Bible Basking

Basking:
* to lay or relax in a pleasant warmth or atmosphere like basking in the sun
* to take pleasure or derive enjoyment like basking in an accomplishment or compliment

A Couple of Basking Encouragements:
1. Go to the Bible to meet God.
2. Read vertical instead of just horizontal.
3. Slow down.
4. Pray conversationally.
5. Meditate on and soak in the word.
