Jonathan shares a word in season concerning the Lord’s revealing deep issues of the heart, and purifying / cleansing His bride. The goal of the gospel is salvation from sins - not hell! He quotes Scottish pastor Alexander MacClaren and recounts the need for us to completely “believe” (acknowledge + follow) and come under Jesus’ lordship as his feudatories for our protection and strength. He finishes with 1 Thessalonians 4 and a personal testimony of deliverance from addiction.

Notes

2 Corinthians 3 - now with spiritual eyes
1 John 3:2 - someday with physical eyes

1 John 3:2 (NIV)
2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

The Gospel Goal

Acts 13:38-39 (NIV)
38 “Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.
39 Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses.

Matthew 1:21 (NIV)
21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

Thru Jesus - forgiveness
Thru Jesus - victory/freedom from EVERY sin

How? By “believing”

Acknowledge + Follow

Acts 15:8-9 (NIV)
8 God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us.
9 He did not discriminate between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith.

God knows hearts
God purifies hearts

Practical steps

The real problem is not our sin but our unwillingness to believe

To offer total, complete surrender

To become a feudatory

1 Thessalonians 4:3-8 (NIV)
3 It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality;
4 that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable,
5 not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God;
6 and that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister. The Lord will punish all those who commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before.
7 For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.
8 Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit.

God’s will enables more than requires

In Christ, we live in the POSITION of righteousness.

This righteous position must lead us to a sanctified DISPOSITION
