Jonathan shares about the GLORIOUS gospel of Jesus Christ - the New Testament “Joshua” who came to save us from our sins. He then teaches out of Luke 1 concerning the people being led into paths of peace. The resurrection of Jesus secured three types of peace for us: Peace with God, Peace with others, and Peace in our souls. For unbelievers and believers: Invite Jesus in today!

Notes

I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ!!!

Matthew 1:21 (NIV)
21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

Sin is the ultimate cause of death

1 Corinthians 15:21-27 (NIV)
21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man.
22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.
23 But each in turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him.
24 Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power.
25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.
26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death.
27 For he “has put everything under his feet.” Now when it says that “everything” has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ.

Enemies: Dominions, Authorities, Powers
- Sin
- Satan
- Self
Last Enemy = Death

1 Corinthians 15:54-57 (NIV)
54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”
55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”
56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

“DEATH DEFEATED BY RESURRECTION!”

Paul taunts death - now his friend which will usher him into glory!

“The Sting of Death is Sin”

For the unconverted - the sting of death is NOT dying, but rather being held accountable for sin at the Judgment.

Luke 1:67-79 (NIV)
67 His father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied:
68 “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come to his people and redeemed them.
69 He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David
70 (as he said through his holy prophets of long ago),
71 salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us—
72 to show mercy to our ancestors and to remember his holy covenant,
73     the oath he swore to our father Abraham:
74 to rescue us from the hand of our enemies, and to enable us to serve him without fear
75     in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.
76 And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him,
77 to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins,
78 because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven
79 to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.”

The Path of Peace

Isaiah 53:5 (NIV)
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

PEACE = “Freedom from Disturbance.  Tranquility. Mental or Emotional Calm.”

Christ’s Resurrection Accomplished Three Types of Peace
1) Peace WIth God (Romans 5:1, Luke 2:14)
Romans 5:1 (NIV)
1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
Luke 2:14 (NIV)
14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

2) Peace with One Another (Colossians 3:15)
Colossians 3:15 (NIV)
15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

3) Peace in Our Souls/Selves

PEACE = a Person
Ephesians 2:14 (NIV)
14 For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility,

No God, No Peace
Know God, Know Peace

"Every moment is alive with My glorious Presence, to those whose hearts are intimately connected with Mine. As you give yourself more and more to a life of constant communion with Me, you will find that you simply have no time for worry. Thus, you are freed to let My Spirit direct your steps, enabling you to walk along the path of Peace.”
