Sam McVay shares a word about how God works through His creation (us) to fulfill His purposes: redeeming, ruling and filling the earth. He does so through an assembly, an “ekklesia”, the church! Ephesians 2:22 (ESV) says “In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.” The ekklesia is THE visitation and administration of God's heavenly glory and government on earth. Jesus is bringing a Kingdom, the Kingdom of God, not starting a religion.
The Trinitarian invisible creator God will incarnationally draw the creation into His / Their divine life and purpose so as to fill all things.
Ephesians 1:22-23 (ESV)
22 And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church (ekklesia),
23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.
Ephesians 3:19 (ESV)
19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 4:10 (ESV)
10 He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.
Where is human history headed?
What will be the gospel consummation?
What is the eschatological final result?
The Trinitarian invisible creator God will incarnationally draw the creation into His/Their divine life and purpose so as to fill all things.
I. Trinitarian invisible creator God.
Genesis 1:1 (ESV)
1 In the beginning, God (plural Elohim) created (singular verb) the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:26a (ESV)
26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. …”
True Theology is the temporal and eternal study of God - The Eternal, Trinitarian, Omni, Creator, Invisible, Incarnated, Merciful, Loving, etc. person(s) of the One God.
II. Will Incarnationally...
The invisible God has gloriously determined to work along the lines of incarnation for redeeming and ruling purposes.
In a manner of speaking there is a "law of incarnation" involved in God's pursuit and purpose with humanity.
III. Draw the creation into His / Their life and purpose filling all things.
Paying for our sins, or salvation, was the means to the great plan of occupying our individual and corporate body
Jesus is building something, and it is His fleshed out ekklesia (assembly), for at least three purposes:
1. to overcome the rule of Satan by bringing the government of God from heaven to earth by the ekklesia executing keys to bind and loose. (Matthew 16:18-19)
2. by establishing royal priesthood to rule just as first revealed to Adam and Eve in Genesis 1:28 but only fully realized in the ekklesia. (1 Peter 2:4-5)
3. by making the ekklesia the incarnational location of the very presence of God on earth. (Ephesians 2:22)
Matthew 16:18-19 (ESV)
18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
1 Peter 2:4-5 (ESV)
4 As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious,
5 you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 2:22 (ESV)
22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.
Final comments:
The ekklesia is THE visitation and administration of God's heavenly glory and government on earth.
The ekklesia is constantly warred upon by the enemy being seduced into a false identity of process instead of presence - i.e. perfection of organization / title / polity instead of manifestation of organic identity.
The ekklesia has been drawn by redemption into the Trinitarian dynamic life and purpose that will ultimately transition this age to the age to come.
Lastly, the ekklesia is you! The ekklesia is how God is filing all things! So, the ekklesia is to be more focused upon going out than coming in.
