John 13:1-17
What does it mean to wash feet today?
A) Be humble & take on the servant's role I Peter 5:5
I Tim 5:10
B) Serve one another in the process of sanctification "Washing one another's feet from the pollutions of sin"See what ought to be the daily care... to wash their feet to cleanse themselves from the guilt they contract daily through infirmity (being weak or ill) and inadvertence (being unfocused or unintentional), by the renewed exercise of repentance, with a believing application of the virtue of Christ's blood." - Matthew Henry
Examples of Daily Washing
1) Husbands & wives (Ephesians 5:25-27) 2) The Corporate Church (James 5:13-20)
- Suffering
- Sick
- Caught up in sin
- Wandering from the truth
Two "Musts" From Jesus
1) Jn 13:8 - Receive.
If you don't submit to the uncomfortable, humbling process
of getting your feet washed, you have "no share or part" with Jesus
2) Jn 13:14-15 - Give.
Following Jesus means following His example. Wash other people's feet.
Result? (Jn 13:17)
If you know these things, blessed / happy / favored by God - are you if you DO them (put them into practice)
