It has been my experience that when disciples stay on mission, meaning ministering to the lost, poor, and saints, that they spend less time on the "petty" things that arise in life and relationships. So many unnecessary "concerns" fill our minds when we do not set our hands to a life of mission.
There is something purifying and liberating about setting our hearts on the needs of the most needy. I have heard of whole churches being in turmoil because a picture of Jesus was moved from one wall to another wall. Beloved, that and a hundred other silly things occupy the minds of the saints when they are not on mission but rather focused on themselves, their group, and getting their own way.
the church can be like a group of fireman standing outside of an occupied burning building with the ability to put out the fire and save lives but instead are arguing about the color of the fire truck or how they will have their next administrative meeting. May we occupy ourselves with putting out fires and saving lives and I promise the result will be that we will reject the "petty" that so often distracts.
Sunday morning we had the privilege of hearing, at both NL locations, disciples who had been on mission during the normal flow of life. This led to salvations, prayer blessings, and sowing of kingdom seeds. These stories highlighted that even when going to the mall, being at work, or in a restaurant eating it is possible to still be on mission.
Remember that our everyday responsibilities are not IN the way of mission but rather ON the way to mission. A disciple does not stop working, eating, and doing errands. No, a disciple does all of these practical things but is now doing them with a higher purpose. An unbeliever just does these things to survive and to be entertained, but a disciple now lives for a greater end. A disciple lives to know Jesus and to make him known. But instead of quitting all of these practical things, the disciple now uses them as a means to bring the kingdom of God to earth.
Are you on mission in your everyday life? It is a delusion to think that you have to wait to go to Africa in order to have kingdom impact. Remember that, mission is where you are, and where you are is an opportunity for mission.
Here are a couple of great testimonies of disciples who merge practical living with mission. Be blessed and inspired.
Thanksgiving Activates Ambushes
Thanksgiving changes anxiety to peace.
Thanksgiving is the will of of God for us in Christ Jesus.
Thanksgiving blesses others.
Thanksgiving blesses you body, soul, and spirit.
Thanksgiving activates ambushes against the enemy.
And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. And coming up at that very hour she began to give thanks to God and to speak of him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem. (Luke 2:36-38 ESV)
This passage tells of a prophetess who had been praying and fasting for decades for the coming "redeemer of Jerusalem". \Now, at 84 she sees the answer to her prayers in the baby Jesus. Simeon, and older man, had just rejoiced that he had received the promise of seeing the "consolation of Israel".
Both had waited a long time while they prayed and prayed until the time for the manifestation of the answer. This is often the case in our lives in prayer. Many times the answers to our prayers are off in the distance according the Lords schedule.
I remind you of this for two reasons. First, so that you would be patient and persevere in your praying. Never ever give up on praying what you know the Lord has put in your heart and live with expectation that he will fulfill the request in his perfect timing.
Secondly, I keep being impressed by the Spirit that we are entering a season of a "Harvest of Prayers" which have been prayed for the last decades. It seems to me that there is a tidal wave of answers that are about to break over us, our nation, and the earth. I have noticed that there has been a drawing out of the water from the shore over the last couple of years that is really the building up of a huge wave of answers that are about to manifest.
So, please pray over this and if you have faith for it- begin to praise the Lord for the many answers to prayers that are about to manifest is the season of a "Harvest of Prayers".
It has become clear by the Spirit that we are at the beginning of a new stage at New Life. Last week, Jonathan had a vision of a leaf turning over and heard the Spirit say, "I am turning over a new leaf in El Dorado".
And, while on a jog last week, I heard the Spirit say that we have entered Phase 3 in the ministry here.
Phase 1:(Birth to Childhood Stage) Was from 1990 to 1997 which was about thousands of prayer meetings and the beginning of mission.
Phase 2:(Teenage to Adult Stage) Was from 2004-2014 which was about continued commitment to prayer (EHOP), broadening missions/disciples, and growing up in trial by fire which exposed much weakness in the midst of perceived strength.
Phase 3:(Maturity in Parenting) Is what we have entered now. We now, having lived through many blessings and trials, are bit more seasoned for the next leg of the run in a spiritually mature way. I believe with all of my heart that this new phase is related to (1) fruitful multiplying evangelism, (2)the receiving of answers to prayers prayed in thousands of meetings in the last 20 years, (3) and a wholehearted embrace of the selfless cross with humility and integrity.
I am so excited about the season that we find ourselves in now. In the last couple years we have had a season of cleansing, de-bugging, rewiring, and reprograming so that New Life 2.0 can function at a higher level of operation.
It is time to "turn the page" on the past and to embrace the newness that is before us with expectation of favor and blessing for the Lord's glory.
