Jeremiah 2:13
"For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water."
In the midst of the Holy Spirit refocusing the body on the supremacy of Christ, I have become more aware of how often I fall short in being fully satisfied in Jesus. The verse above shows exactly why. The root of it is a two part failure:
1) Forsaken (or turned away from) Jesus, the fountain of living waters.
I believe that this might be the greatest lie we are told: that Jesus alone, the only source of living water, will not satisfy you. Every time we are tempted, what's really being told to us is that Jesus isn't enough and some other thing will give you the satisfaction you are seeking. Every time. And so we forsake Him, we don't turn to Him in our temptation and give Him a chance to fill us, satisfy us, show us love, and joy, and pleasure. We run and look for a quick fix. What an outrage, that our minds can be deceived to think the world can fill the void in our lives but Jesus can't!
2) Made our own cisterns to drink from, broken cisterns that hold no water.
One of the most incredible things about our fallen race is that we can try to find life in the same thing a million times, and never once get anything out of it, yet we can continue to try day after day after day to drink from wells that never had any satisfying water to begin with. For some of us this is money, status, lust, relationships, or any number of things, seeking joy in them day after day and always wanting more. Eventually, by faith, we have got to believe God's assessment of what we are sourcing from: He alone is life, everything else apart from Him has no life, and has no ability to fully satisfy.
I pray this week for humble repentant hearts, who by faith can agree with God's assessment of what will satisfy and fill us and what won't, to the point that we can say "All my fountains are in You!" (Psalm 87:7)
What God has given us is just Christ; He has not given us many things apart from Christ.
The characteristic of Christianity, the root of Christianity, and all its depth and riches are contained in the knowledge of the Son of God. It is not a matter of how many methods we know or how many doctrines we have or how much power we possess. It is a matter of how much we know God’s Son. If we know God’s Son, we have the way, we have the truth, and we have the life (John 14:6).
Brothers and sisters, we must remember that God does not give us individual things, one by one. He has given us His Son. We should always lift up our head and say to the Lord, “You are my way; You are my truth; You are my life. Lord, I have to deal with You alone, not with the things that belong to You.”

"Christ, the Sum of all Spiritual Things"
But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble". Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:6,7
..."God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble". Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you,.. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:6,8
In these two very similar passages, written by the apostle Peter and the apostle James, there is a clear connection drawn between pride in us and the devil's devouring work against us.
Ezekiel writes in the 28th chapter verse 17 about Satan, "Your heart was proud because of your beauty..". This angel, created by the Lord and blameless, according to Ezekiel 28:15 became proud in himself. This then led to a rebellion that is still filling creation with anguish and angst. Pride corrupted the heart of the Devil and is also an open door for enemy activity within our lives.
Beware of the many flavors of pride beloved! Whether loud pride or quiet pride, boastful pride or false-humility pride. Because, not only does God resist the proud but pride invites the activity of the enemy into our lives. Repent of it immediately! Remove that familiar platform that the enemy stood on in heaven and will stand on in your heart- reject and repent of pride as though your life depended on it.
Remember it is so much easier to see pride in others than in yourself. Pride has a blinding affect upon the eyes of our heart. It is skilled at seeing others problems while dull at seeing its own.
Humility is the way to God's grace as well as the way to defeating that roaming lion that wants to devour. So in reality, humility is not only a gentle recipient of God's best, but also a violent weapon of war which slays the enemies access into your life.
Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any pockets of pride in you. If you discern areas, immediately repent and humble yourself- your victory depends upon it.
Psalm 30:5 For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.
David makes a sweeping statement about the NATURE and WAYS of God, which he had personally experienced, in Psalm 30:5
We see in this Psalm, that David’s revelation about the Lord was:
"His Favor lasts a lifetime but his anger only lasts a moment."
David’s life experience shows that he knew personally the favor and the anger of the Lord.
1. David knew a life of favor from the time he was a young man:
Anointed king around the age of 13-15 by the favor of God
Defeats wild beast and giants by the favor of God
Defeats evil spirits by the favor of God
Leads great military exploits by the favor of God
Survives the pursuit of a demonized king and many betrayals by the favor of God
Survives lack and hard conditions by the favor of God
Ascends the throne by the favor of God
Endures his own sons’ betrayals after he is King by the favor of God
2. David also knew the anger of the Lord:
The Lord’s anger manifest towards his adultery and murder - by the death of a child and trouble in his house.
The Lord’s anger manifest towards his unfaithful and unlawful census - and a three-day pestilence kills 70,000 of his people.
Knowing God’s abundant favor would cause David to recover quickly from discipline and to live a life with a "Favor Mentality”. David made mistakes, big and costly mistakes, but because of his revelation of the favor of the Lord he would recover quickly from these moment. Not because he took light his sin, but because he knew the heart of his God.
Do you live with a sense of Disfavor or Favor from God?
A sense of Disfavor will produce: fear, dread, discouragement, and a critical spirit.
A sense of Favor will produce: courage, hope, faith, and an overcoming victorious spirit.
How do you Live in Lifetime Favor?
By a revelation and conviction that:
God is a God of Favor & Blessing even though there are moments of Anger/discipline
God’s ultimate favor is shown through and is upon Jesus Christ
As a believer, the favor that is upon Christ is now upon and within you
Circumstances do not determine your Favor - position in Christ determines your Favor
You will not live in Favor unless you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that you have Favor
