Stand therefore, having fastened the belt of truth.. Eph. 6:14
All of the parts of the armor of God are essential. It would be hard to say that one is more important than the other. But it is interesting to me that the belt of truth is listed first. Again, I am not saying it is most important but I think it is right to say that it is “first in importance”.
Truth in the greek can also be translated- reality. That means that truth is not just a list of information but is more clearly the articulation of what is actually real. Jesus calls the Holy Spirit the Spirit of Truth in John 14:17. I believe the Spirit led Paul to list the belt of truth first because all the rest of the armor is useless and possibly misused by a lying enemy unless they are rooted in God’s reality.
Salvation, love, faith, healing, prophecy, scripture, prayer, worship, etc., are all going to be misused if not secured by the belt of truth. The enemy would love to deceive us, not just away from these things but also in the midst of these things. The enemy has as much to say about salvation, love, faith, healing, prophecy, scripture, prayer, worship, etc, as the Spirit does. He just lies about them so as to remove us from truth and thus the glory of God.
So:
* Let us be lovers of the truth: embracing the word by the teaching of the Spirit in all that we do.
* Let us be prayers for the truth: diligently asking the Father to lead and keep us in the truth.
* Let us be practicers of the truth: rejecting any form of lying or deceit in our practical lives.
"Things are not going the way that I expected in my life.”
"My prayers are not answered in the way or time that I think they should.”
" People and circumstances have really hurt me .”
“I did this for God and now look how hard my life has become."
These statements, as well as many like them, are said by people who are struggling with being disappointed with God. Whether they say it aloud or not, many people are inwardly disappointed with God and his ways in their lives. One definition of disappointment goes like this: not satisfied: unhappy because something was not as good, attractive, or satisfactory as expected, or because something hoped for or expected did not happen.
Disappointment with God is a real struggle that many go through in their spiritual lives. On one hand we could say, “Its only human to be disappointed with the way that things go in our jobs, marriages, finances, children, and our over-all lives- so just grin and bear it”. But there is something more dangerous about a heart that lives disappointed. The problem is that when we live this way we actually open up the door of our mind to the accusation from the enemy that- God is not good.
The serpent tried to convince Eve that God was holding back from them by not letting them eat of the forbidden tree. The enemy had first attacked God’s word with, “Did God really say?”. But then he attacked God’s nature with, "God knows when you eat of it you will become like God”. This was an outright attack on the “goodness” of God that ended up tempting them to rebel and disobey God.
This happens to many, they get disappointed with how something works out and then they begin to entertain lies from the enemy that keep saying, “God is not good" or "This would not be happening to you if God was faithful”. You see, the enemy assaults our hearts when they are saturated with disappointment with the Lord. Thus, it is vital spiritual warfare to remove, by an act of our faith, all traces of disappointment with God so that we can defeat the enemies deceitful words like, “God is not good”, or “If God was faithful this would not have happened to me”, or worse yet- “God has caused evil to come upon me”.
Disappointment with God is a culture of the mind in which the fungus of the lie that 'God is not good' grows rapidly. Battle disappointment with scriptures about God’s goodness like Psalm 145:9 which says, “The Lord is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made”. Add to this, the faith decision, and declaration, that God is good all the time no matter what happens. When you do this, you crush disappointment and close the door to the accusing enemy that loves to accuse your faithful Father.
One out of every 30 verses in the Bible mentions the subject of Christ's return or the end of times.
150-180 chapters in he bible have Jesus's return and the end times as their main theme.
The second coming of Jesus is the predominant theme of the whole bible.
The second coming of Jesus in Revelation 19 is the most described historical event in the scriptures.
Of the 216 chapters in the New Testament, there are well over 300 references to the return of Christ.
23 of the 27 New Testament books mention Christ's return.
In the Old Testament, such well-known and reliable men of God as Job, Moses, David, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, as well as most of the minor prophets mention Christ's return in their writings.
Christ often spoke specifically about His own return to earth especially in the great prophecy of Matthew 24 .
With this overwhelming emphasis in the scriptures may we never neglect this Holy Spirit inspired subject. The Devil and our flesh will want to ignore the subject but we must press in by the power of the Holy Spirit to understand and calibrate our lives according to the great return of Christ to this earth.
In 2 Kings 2, Elijah asked Elisha what he would desire to have before Elijah was supernaturally escorted from this earthly life. Elisha now stands before the greatest pray'er that he has ever known with the opportunity to ask for anything he wishes. Would it be money, fame, safety, or health? No. Elisha ends up asking for the greatest thing that a human being could ever ask, he asks for a double-portion of the spirit that was upon Elijah. Acknowledging the highness of the request, Elijah says you have asked for a hard thing. In actuality, what he asked for was the firstborn sons portion of the Holy Spirit and his anointing presence.
The Lord invites us to present request of all kinds before him. And we should pray for every need we have. But I wanted to encourage that in all of your asking, ask for the Holy Spirit. Even be so bold as to ask for a double-portion of the Spirit. The double portion was the portion for the firstborn son. And praise the Lord that Jesus, the firstborn over all creation and from the dead, has secured the double-portion from the Father and will gladly pour him out in increasing measures upon the hungry of heart.
So please diligently pray for more of the Spirit for yourself, your spouse, your children, your friends, your pastor, and the church worldwide with a confidence that Jesus, the firstborn, has secured for us the double-portion.
“Instead of shame my people will inherit a double-portion, “ Isa. 61:7
Prophetic vision will crush fear by spiritually seeing reality and end up winning the victory by empowering faith filled prayer that crushes the enemy.
